The body of a man has been discovered lying by the railway track in Colchester.
It was found near to the section of track which runs alongside the A12 and Bakers Lane shortly before 6am on Saturday.
Someone walking in the area raised the alarm after finding the man and police from Colchester and the British Transport Police were called in to investigate.
The circumstances surrounding his death are not yet known but police are not treating it as suspicious and a post mortem examination is due to be carried out today.
Trains were not delayed on the line and services were running as normal throughout Saturday morning as inquiries were made.
