Chelmsford finished the first half of their Division 'A' season with a home defeat at the hands of Cambridge University on Saturday.
The result was sweet revenge for the students, who were beaten 3-2 by Chelmsford on the opening day of the season.
On this occasion, they looked more secure in defence and imaginative going forward.
Two reverse-stick strikes - on in each half - were enough to settle the game and, although Chelmsford recovered from a poor first half performance to dominate the second, they still could not manage more than a couple of attempts on goal.
Chelmsford suffered two late call-offs, with the unfortunate Phil Wilkinson still recovering from the shoulder injury he sustained last weekend and Shippu Mumin who had family commitments.
The best opportunities for Chelmsford were a David Kitchiner first-half penalty corner strike deflected wide of the post, and a chance for Ian Belchamber, late in the second half, where his free shot at goal was well charged down by the advancing goalkeeper.
