A team of students from Benfleet's Deanes School put forward an outstanding performance in the national schools badminton finals and finished third in the under-13 event.
Said headteacher Paul Beashel: "To reach the finals our team came second in the East of England Tournament, having previously had success at Essex County level.
"Congratulations go to the players, who had an enjoyable and very successful day. We are very proud of them."
Members of the team, all aged 12, were Jon Bonnett, David Britton, Ben Thurman and Craig Willis.
Apart from playing for the school, the quartet are all members of Deanes Badminton Club while Bonnett and Britton are in the Essex line-up.
