Rayleigh Wyverns officials today warned that their club could quit the Eastern Counties League if an appeal over docked points is unsuccessful.

The league took two points off the Eastern Counties Three South club for not fulfilling their fixture against Loughton in November.

They said that this was because Wyverns didn't have enough players. However, the Runwell Hospital-based club claimed they could not fulfil the fixture due to their pitch being waterlogged.

Wyverns officials are now all set to appeal to the league over the incident. Although they do not wish to jump the gun, they are deadly serious about pulling out of the competition.

Committee member Adam Moss confirmed: "It was obvious the pitch was not going to be ready, but the problem was that we couldn't get an independent view because there was no referee available.

"We're pretty upset about it. If the two points aren't re-instated then we will have to think seriously about pulling out of the league."

Wyverns, who celebrated their 30th anniversary this year, are currently bottom of Eastern Counties Three South with one win and a draw.

On the pitch, Rayleigh beat Pegasus Palmerians 29-5 in a friendly game.
