A group dedicated to preserving Colchester's Jumbo water tower will tonight meet to discuss a controversial decision allowing the 110-ft Victorian tower to be turned into a home.
Campaigner Brian Light, of the Save Jumbo for Colchester Company, was on holiday abroad when permission was given to convert the building into a luxury five-bedroom living area.
Members of Save Jumbo for Colchester are joining forces tonight to discuss the planning inspector's report.
Plans for Jumbo include creating a home over three floors, with either offices or two flats at the base. There will also be an exhibition area and public viewing gallery. Both plans involve removing three sides of the Grade II listed cast iron tank and replacing them with glass. Only the side facing High Street would remain as it is.
Owners Roy and Linda Rawden plan to live in the building when it is converted.
