Rochford residents are being asked for their views on the council's new local plan.
The plan provides the basis for all planning decisions within the Rochford district and the new one will cover the period up until 2011.
A first draft is likely to be published in March next year but council bosses have put reports and publications relating to it on the internet in a bid to test public views and reaction.
Shaun Scrutton, Rochford Council's head of planning services, said: "We are keen for residents to be involved at every stage of the local plan process and would welcome informal views on any of the draft policies posted up on the website."
