The first Sandon Brownies hand over a cheque for £150 to station commander Matthew Hodgkinson of Great Baddow fire station.

The money, raised in a sponsored silence at Sandon Village Hall, will be paid into the Essex Fire Service's New York fund, to help the firefighters and their families affected by the events of September 11.
Brown owl Susan Jessop explained that the brownies, aged 7-11, kept quiet for half an hour. She said: "It was quite hard, but they did exceptionally well."
