Southend United boss Rob Newman, whose team extended their unbeaten run to four games last night, was very pleased with his side's display after their 2-0 win over Chesterfield.

"We remained professional and finished the job we started up at Chesterfield," he said.

"Straight from the kick-off we played very well and gained the right reward for remaining solid and keeping our concentration for 90 minutes.

"Chesterfield held on to the ball for long periods, but we kept them out, with Phil Whelan and Leon Cort outstanding in defence.

"And it's great to seal a third round meeting with Tranmere, but we have to put the FA Cup to bed for a few weeks now and concentrate on our League form, beginning with Friday night's trip to Hull City."

Southend fans can travel to Friday's clash at Hull for just £5 on specially subsidised coaches. For more information and bookings call Blues on 01702 304050 or e-mail the club at info@southendunited.co.uk
