A ward at Southend Hospital that was forced to close by a mystery virus has finally reopened.
Chalkwell Ward, which has 28 beds, was sealed off for four days last week and staff were taken ill as the outbreak took a grip.
As a precautionary measure the urology ward was closed to admissions, but the virus has now passed.
A hospital spokesman said: "Unfortunately problems like this do happen from time to time. We are pleased to say, however, that the ward is now open and fully functional again.
"It wasn't the best timing because all the beds are needed as we move into this crucial winter period, but it is over now and we can get on with giving patients the best possible treatment."
