Men over the age of 60 in Castle Point could soon become eligible for senior citizens travel concessions, it has been revealed.
Castle Point Council is planning to extend its scheme of travel concessions for senior citizens and disabled people to men between the ages of 60 and 64.
The council provides free half-fare bus passes to pensioners and specified categories of disabled people.
Women over 60 have always been eligible for the pass, but men could not receive the pass until they were over 65.
The move to equalise eligibility is part of a Government initiative. The Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Bill is before Parliament.
Local authorities must implement the bill by April 1, 2003.
