Rochford's historic St Andrew's Parish Church in Hall Road could be set for a facelift.
Plans for an extension to the north aisle of the church have been submitted to Rochford District Council and will be considered in the new year.
The rector, Canon David Williams, said that the former church hall at the junction of Ashingdon Road and West Street had been sold some time ago, and the money raised had been earmarked for a "small extension".
It is planned to provide better access for the disabled and toilet facilities.
