Firefighters spent more than an hour at a house in Clacton after a blaze started in the chimney.
One fire crew from the town's station went to The Green, off Rush Green Road, just after 8.30pm last night.
The fire started in the chimney, which led from a wood burner, and the occupants were all outside when the firefighters arrived.
The owners were allowed back into their home at about 9.30pm.
