Amateur astrologers can spot a bright star-like mass of light in south Essex skies until the new year.
The effect has been caused by sunlight hitting the planet Jupiter which is then reflected back into the sky.
Royston Dean, of the Astronomy Resource Centre in Hawkwell, said: "You can't really miss it, the star-shape is so bright and it looks like it has rays coming from it.
"It is currently at its most visible point and will slowly start to fade away in January. It is really quite special to view, especially over Christmas."
