The principal of a south Essex college has been called to 10 Downing Street to explain how he makes the most of his sports facilities in the community.
Just days after Prime Minister Tony Blair visited Greensward College, in Greensward Lane, Hockley, principal David Triggs received his prestigious invitation.
Mr Triggs has been invited by Mr Blair to explain how the college uses its sports facilities for community use as part of a new Government initiative on sport.
He said: "The new sports fund move by the Government aims to encourage more community use of school sports facilities and I was pleased to be invited to help launch the project.
"Greensward College has an excellent reputation for the standard of physical education and sport achieved by its students and is a holder of the Sports Mark award."
The sports centre is home to a range of outside sports groups including Swifts Basketball Club, Ashingdon Cricket Club, Hawkwell Athletic Football Club, Scouts and Guides, aerobic classes, Ashingdon Boys Football Club, Greensward Badminton Club and Greensward Community Badminton Club.
It also provides training facilities for county, regional and national sports squads.
