While most were still unwrapping their presents in the warm, about 60 hardy souls plunged into the sea off Clacton's West Beach on Christmas Day.

Members of Clacton Swimming Club and friends were keeping up a long-standing tradition going back well over 50 years and were cheered on by several hundred spectators.
All ages indulged in the fun with grandparents joining children and grandchildren in the water. Temperatures had risen and the cold easterly winds of the previous few days had dropped away to make things just a little more comfortable.
But the water was still cold enough for most to just take a quick dip before it was back to the lower promenade for a towel and warm clothing.
