New Year revellers are being warned to stay away from stolen beer which could make them violently ill.
Burglars stole five large barrels of lager - containing about 400 pints - from the Clear Springs club in Low Road, Dovercourt.
However, the thieves' hopes of a free New Year drink could put them in hospital.
Police have said the stolen lager is out of date and could make anyone who drinks it seriously ill.
Sgt Jean Marc Bazzoni, of Harwich police, said: "If people are offered lager at parties from large barrels, they should avoid it and report it to us."
He said the barrels were between one and two years past their expiry date. That could possibly have caused a chemical reaction which would make drinkers violently sick.
Anyone with information should contact Harwich police on 01255 241312 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
