A teenager has been robbed of his mobile telephone by two men.

The pair approached the 18-year-old as he was walking from Witham's Humber Road across parkland to the town centre.

A police spokesman said he was asked for a cigarette and when he said he did not smoke the pair pushed him and took his £100 silver and black Nokia telephone.

Both of the robbers are aged 20 and around six feet tall and described as looking fit.

One is black and was wearing a black woollen hat, black Adidas tracksuit bottoms, a black t-shirt and white trainers.

The other robber is described as white, with dark hair wearing dark-coloured Adidas tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The teenager was unhurt.

Last week, a Home Office report revealed that half a million young people have fallen victim to mobile phone theft.

Anyone who saw the theft or who has information about the incident, which happened on Friday at 10.30am, should contact Witham CID on 01376 501212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
