Family and friends have paid tribute to a hard-working charity volunteer.
Joan Willis, 81, of Bailey Bridge Road, Braintree, died peacefully after a long illness. She worked in a number of shops in the town and also carried out a lot of work for charities.
Mrs Willis was involved with Oxfam and also did volunteer work for Cancer Research.
As well as her charity connections, she belonged to a number of social groups in the town, including the Townswomen's Guild, Contact and the Blind Club.
Her daughter, Elizabeth Lewis, said: "She made so many friends in everything she did. I know she is going to be missed.
"We have had so many nice cards and letters from all of the people who knew her."
Joyce Taylor, who works at the Braintree Oxfam shop, said: "I worked with her at the shop for 18 years and we ran it together for 12.
"She was ever so happy to help in the shop and loved what we did here. It was hard work but we always managed to make it fun. I really will miss her."
Mrs Willis leaves a daughter, three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Her funeral is being held today.
The family have asked for any donations to be given to Farleigh Hospice.
