The winners' cup for the best kept playing field in Essex was presented to Chelmsford Borough Council's staff after Chelmer Park took first prize.

Park prize: Groundsmen Shane Orrin (left) and Mervyn Coe (centre) were presented the Tom Kelly Memorial Trophy by the Council's executive member for arts and leisure, Councillor Ian Roberts (right). Chelmer Park also won the certificate of merit, first prize.

Saltcoats Park, South Woodham Ferrers took the second prize, with third prize going to Coronation Park.

Certificate of merits were also awarded to Bell Meadow Central Park, Fifth Avenue Playing Fields, Hylands Park, Lionmede Park, Melbourne Park, Oakland Park, Springfield Hall Park, Tower Gardens and the children's playground at Hunters Way.

Cllr Ian Roberts, said: "This is a great achievement for all our parks staff. They do a very good job in all weathers, and it's gratifying to receive external recognition for the hard work they do."
