Concerns about the way Billericay and Wickford Citizen Advice Bureaux are funded have been raised by the area's MP John Baron
Mr Baron raised his worries after a visit to Billericay's High Street bureau.
He said: "One of my concerns is that both Billericay and Wickford CABs are unable to financially plan strategies over anything other than the very short term because funding is kept on such a short leash.
"This creates uncertainty and does not help when it comes to putting plans together for the future. This issue does need to be addressed."
Billericay CAB was saved from closure late last year after Basildon District Council's Community and Leisure Committee agreed to release further funding to help it continue.
The CAB is now looking for new external funding sources to help it maintain its services.
During the visit Mr Baron praised staff for their hard work and expressed hopes that he could assist the bureau's work in the coming year.
