Well-known Shenfield doctor Clive Sexton, 72, died in hospital on December 31 after a stroke.
Dr Sexton suffered a stroke on Thursday, December 27, and was treated by Dr David Ainsworth, who he had practised with at Rockleigh Court Surgery in High Street, Shenfield.
He is survived by his wife Julia, children Gregory, Dominic and Nicola and grandchildren Robert and Freya.
Dr Sexton began work at the surgery in 1965 and treated Shenfield residents until he retired five years ago.
Fellow Rockleigh Court practitioner Dr Martin Hoyle worked with Dr Sexton for 25 years. Dr Hoyle said: "He was an important part of the community for 30 years. He will be sorely missed."
Dr Sexton's funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) at St Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, Hutton, at 2pm by Bennetts Funeral Directors, Brentwood.
Donations can be made to the Royal Medical Benefit Fund.
