Burnham Clinic is to undergo a £16,000 upgrade, which will result in improved facilities for patients and better working conditions for staff.

Maldon and South Chelmsford Primary Care Trust (PCT) that runs the Crouch Road clinic, has sanctioned the work, which will start later this month and be finished by the end of March.

The work will include reconfiguring space so that health visitors and school nurses can move to a larger, better equipped room with vacated office space transformed into an appropriately appointed clinical area.

This will be used for holding family planing clinics and clinical sessions run by the doctor in community paediatrics.

In addition, all rooms and adjacent areas of the clinic, which will remain open throughout the work, will be decorated.

Sue Logan, the PCT's director of primary and community services, said: "These improvements will create a better environment which will benefit patients and staff. We hope people will feel any minor inconvenience experienced whilst work is being carried out will be justified by the end result."
