Basildon snooker pro Stuart Bingham is just one step away from winning through to the final stages of the World Championship at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre for the second time in his career.
Two years ago Bingham, now playing out of the Executive Club in Leigh, caused a sensation at the home of snooker when he knocked out seven times world champion Stephen Hendry in the first round proper before bowing out at the hands of Jimmy White.
Now, after freezing out Iceland's number one Kristjan Helgasson 10-7 in the fifth round qualifier at Telford, Bingham needs only to beat former beaten finalist Nigel Bond in Newport next month to win a place at Sheffield in April.
March promises to be a key time for Bingham as he also plays in the Thailand Masters in Bangkok next month, starting his challenge against White after winning through the qualifying stages.
