Applications from three different companies to erect mobile phone masts at Aveley Football Club have been rejected by Thurrock Council.

BT Cellnet, Vodafone, and Hutchinson 3G all asked to replace existing floodlight towers at the ground in Mill Lane with a mast carrying antennas and dishes, and with floodlights on top.

Thurrock Council's development control committee has voted against on three application. It says the proposed masts would be far too close to the nearest houses and "would have a direct and adverse impact on the amenity and perceived health of local residents.

Committee chairman Tim McMahon said: "This site is in the middle of a residential area - that is the problem."
