A harsh overnight frost failed to deter competitors at Sunday's Ridley Angling Products Gloucester Park Open where Roger Naylor claimed victory after taking a string of runner-up places and section wins in previous matches.

Roger fished the cockle bank where he alternated between quiver tip and pole tactics to take a 16lb 9oz catch. This consisted of three small carp for 10lb 9oz, plus 6lb of roach and small bream. Roger won £100.

Second place in the match went to Dave Hemmings who won £60 with his 13lb 14oz all roach haul. Dave fished the Eastern end of the cockle bank where he used a pole and pinkie baits to take fish throughout the match.

After the elimination of the main winners John Walker ended a lean spell collecting £40 for his 9lb 2oz winning catch in section A.

Geoff Byatt took the prize money in section B weighing in a carp and three tench for 12lb 1oz 8dr. First time visitor Dickie Carr claimed section C's £40 prize money with an all roach 8lb 11oz catch.

The next Ridley Angling Products Gloucester Park Open takes place this Sunday.

The weekend's overnight frosts also failed to stop carp anglers catching at Gloucester Park, with a surprising number of double figure specimens taken.

Nathan Phillips fished the beginning of the canal stretch to take five carp from a swim that had provided him with a 20 pounder on his previous visit.

Nathan fished Activate boilies, scattering broken boilies around his bait. As an added incentive he presented his hook baits in water-soluble bags filled with micro trout pellets.

This attention to detail produced carp of 8lb, 8lb 8oz, 11lb, 11lb 8oz and 14lb.
