Two Paratroopers are being flown back to the UK after a shooting incident in Afghanistan in which a civilian was found dead.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said it was standard procedure to fly people back to the UK after such incidents.

The two men from 2 Para would return to their base in Colchester and would be interviewed by investigators, she said.

The spokeswoman said they would also be able to have easier access to solicitors in the UK if they were needed.

An Army spokesman speaking from Kabul said the two Paras, who have not been named, were due to be flown out last night

A joint Afghan and Military Police investigation is under way after the shooting incident in Kabul on Saturday which left a 20-year-old Afghan, Amaun Isaq, dead.

Six British soldiers from 2 Para reported they returned fire after being shot at as they manned an observation post in Kabul.

The other four soldiers who were in the observation post at the time of the incident will be remaining in Afghanistan, but have now been removed from the 'theatre of operation.'
