The plight of firms in Tendring's holiday industry, which is suffering because of proposed changes in the law, has been raised in Parliament.
The Government is looking at a number of new regulations covering amusement arcades and is currently considering a five-year review.
But Harwich MP Ivan Henderson fears the move is stifling investment in the trade and putting jobs at risk.
He has called for a statement on whether the review was going ahead - and sooner rather than later.
Mr Henderson said one major scheme for Clacton seafront had been put on hold because of the uncertainty.
"No one will give it investment and support because there is no certainty that there will be arcades in the area after five years," he said.
"I stress the importance of the five-year review and would like to know as soon as possible whether it is going ahead."
