The Chief Constable of Essex, David Stevens, has given an assurance that Essex Police officers will be encouraged to attend the new area assemblies in Thurrock.
At last week's Police Authority meeting in Chelmsford, Thurrock councillor Tim McMahon asked the Chief Constable: "Will Essex Police take a full and active part in the meetings of the new Area Assemblies in Thurrock?
"These new Assemblies are part of our response to the government's drive to re-invigorate democracy and we are looking to our social partners, including the police, to help us make them a success."
Mr Stevens replied: "In the same way that we have always encouraged local officers to attend parish council meeting we will encourage them to attend the new assemblies."
Mr Stevens went on to explain that Essex Police had always sought a high level of consultation with the public through various forums.
