Residents are being warned of calls from a company falsely claiming to work for a south Essex council.
Callers saying they are from a company called Power Team Direct have approached council tenants in Grays claiming to be working in partnership with Thurrock Council, telling residents the authority has £5m to spend on new bathrooms and kitchens.
People have been asked for their National Insurance number, which helps locate pension and cash books.
The company has no council link and worried people can contact Trading Standards at Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL, or phone 01375 652377.
