Scrapping tickets at the railway station car park would solve the problems of nightmare parking for commuters and residents in a south Essex town.

That is the view of homeowners living in one street close to South Woodham Ferrers station which is plagued by inconsiderate and sometimes dangerous parking by commuters rushing to catch trains.

Resident Melvin McHugh, 45, said: "The charges at the car park need to be reduced. It's that simple. The car park is half-empty because people do not want to pay every day for using it."

Police have told commuters they have until Monday to stop parking inconsiderately or face £30 tickets.

The charge for all-day parking at the station is £1.50 but the car park is half-empty most days. Bosses at Great Eastern Trains said the daily price is low compared to other stations and they have no plans to cut it.
