Famous authors and their readers are set to come together in Colchester for a new television programme.

The Readers and Writers Roadshow is being made by Lion TV for BBC4, the successor to the digital channel BBC Knowledge.

Peter Ackroyd, the best-selling author of historical biographies, and novelist Tracy Chevalier will be taking part in a debate with Colchester booklovers on Wednesday, February 27.

International author Joanna Trollope will be discussing her work, including the latest "Girl from the South", the following day.

The shows, due to be broadcast from next month, will be among the first to be shown on arts-based BBC4.

A spokeswoman for Lion TV said a venue and times were yet to be confirmed. But anyone interested in attending the 60 to 90-minute recordings should call Elaine Paterson or Gerry Costello on 0141 331 0450.
