Jenny Robinson, 13, preparing for the Commonwealth Games baton relay.

Jenny, 13, was nominated by the Beauchamps Drive school and beat thousands of other hopefuls from around the UK to be named as one of the 2,500 baton carriers.

She has been chosen to carry the baton, which contains a message from the Queen, on Day 18 of the relay through Folkstone as part of its 50-day journey to Manchester beginning on March 11 at Buckingham Palace when the baton is handed to the Queen.

Beauchamps deputy head Bob Hodges said: "The school is delighted for Jenny on being selected for this prestigious and once-in-a-lifetime event."

"Jenny will be a great ambassador for Beauchamps High School and the local community. We are sure it will be a most memorable experience."

The baton's journey will finish at the Games opening ceremony where the Queen will read her message and formally open the 21st Century's first Commonwealth Games.
