A clothes store has revealed fears of a slump in trade if proposals for a new hardcore sex shop get the go-ahead in Southend.
Agents acting for Long Tall Sally, in Alexandra Street, have fired off an angry letter to Southend Council opposing the bid for a vacant shop next door.
Darker Enterprises has applied to the council to operate the sex store and if councillors agree the proposal on Monday, it will be part of the Private Shop chain, which previously operated from Eastern Esplanade.
Around 12 members of the public, mainly residents in the Cliff Town conservation area, have objected to the proposal because they believe it would degrade part of the town centre.
The committee will be told there is no objection from the police to the granting of the licence for a sex shop.
