Christian Pride in Chelmsford is being expressed in a brand new guide released in time for Easter.
The Prayer for Transforming Chelmsford is the brainchild of Peter Balls, pastor of Chelmsford Community Church and chairman of the local evangelical fellowship.
He says as a lifelong resident of the town he was pleased to see its virtues expressed in last week's Essex Chronicle in the aftermath of the honour of city status not going to the county town.
Pride In Chelmsford was launched last week to maintain the momentum brought about by the town's application to become a city.
"I have seen Chelmsford grow from a market town into a large modern city and I support and encourage a better self image for the town," he said.
The book is to be distributed to 50 organisations involved in the Churches Together in Chelmsford initiative.
The publication is designed to encourage Christians to pray on a regular basis for the borough. It can be used over a four-week cycle and calls for prayers for various local bodies, including the church, education, the council, the unemployed and homeless people and the police.
It makes special pleas for prayers for Chelmsford on a Friday night - calling for a reduction in crime, the safety of people leaving clubs, and a reduction in the abuse of drugs and alcohol.
