After a three year absence, Bishop's Stortford celebrated promotion back to the Ryman Premier on Saturday with a 2-0 home win over Walton & Hersham.

Stortford knew three points would be enough to be mathematically certain of regaining their top flight status, though it was a nervous looking side who came out at Woodside Park, allowing the visitors opportunites in the opening stages. Damien Porter went close for Walton, before the Blues began to find their rhythm with Al-James Hannigan looking as threatening as ever.

Home keeper Micky Desborough then produced an outstanding save to deny Triston Frontin as the game sat goalless at half-time.

Early home pressure set the tone for much of the second period as Vinnie John saw his effort scuffed away off the line by Chris Whelan.

The breakthrough finally came in 61st minute as Glen Southam's shot rebounded to Hannigan who stabbed home. As fans sought to find out the scores of title challengers Aylesbury and Ford United, the points were made secure as Tim Langer tapped in from two yards with only minutes remaining.

A satisfying performance to cap a highly impressive season for Stortford, who rightfully regain their place in Isthmian's top division next term.
