A powerful form of amphetamine which may have killed a 29-year-old man could be circulating in Southend, police have warned.
Detectives from Southend CID are investigating the death after the unidentified man was taken ill at an address in Southend on Wednesday.
Paramedics took him to Southend Hospital in Prittlewell Chase and he was immediately placed in the intensive care unit. He was later transferred to Oldchurch Hospital in Romford and then onto the Royal Free Hospital in Camden, before he died on Thursday afternoon.
It is believed the man had taken base amphetamine in a paste form.
A police source said: "We're making the public aware because this drug may be a killer and people need to be warned of the dangers."
