Jimmy McFarlane's injury time goal rescued a point for Purfleet on Saturday at home to Chesham United.

The Essex side would have expected all three points from this clash, continuing their excellent recent form that has seen them climb to 3rd place in the Ryman Premier.

And all looked to be going to form in the first minute, as a flying start saw the hosts take the lead as Paul Linger fed Terry Bowes, and he clipped the ball past Delroy Preddie for the opener.

Chesham came back into it shortly before the break as a deflection set up Derek Brown whose left-foot drive squeezed into the corner of the net.

And before the interval the Buckinghamshire side had turned the game around, leading as former Aldershot man Wayne Andrews was fouled in the box. Richard Graham despatched the penalty with ease.

Purfleet always looked capable of salvaging something from this clash, though clear-cut second half chances were few and far between before McFarlane's late intervention.

The point keeps Purfleet third in the table.
