A mum who smacked her neighbour's head against the floor four times has escaped a jail sentence.

Teresa Durrant, 39, of Silverpoint Marine, Canvey, pleaded guilty to assault at Southend Magistrates' Court.

The attack happened when she and her partner visited a neighbour over a disagreement to do with Durrant's daughter.

An argument developed and Durrant pushed past the partner of the victim in the hallway to get inside the home, also in Silverpoint Marine.

She pushed the victim, tripped her up and kicked her as she lay on the floor.

The assault ended when she grabbed her neighbour's head and banged it four times on the floor.

Durrant then walked out of the property, on December 2 last year.

Lee Wilcockson, for Durrant, said she only went to the neighbour's home to resolve the problem but things didn't go to plan after she was provoked.

Durrant accepted she threw her arms and legs about during the struggle.

District Judge Kevin Gray imposed a curfew on Durrant from 7am to 7pm, to run from from Monday to Saturday and to last for six weeks.

He also ordered her to complete 50 hours community service and 12 months probation.
