Plans to privatise a Laindon school have been formally dismissed by Essex County Council.

James Hornsby High School is under special measures and the council has been considering bringing in new managers.

But the school received a glowing report in an inspection earlier this month, so the council cabinet decided to abandon the idea - particularly because the current management was so highly praised.

Headteacher Jacqueline White said: "We are very pleased. It is a complete turn around.

"It is not just a fantastic move forward for the school, it is a fantastic move forward for the community."

At the council's cabinet meeting Liberal Democrat leader Ken Jones said: "To call this a success story is an understatement. It gives me great pleasure to read this report. We have seen the Local Education Authority at its best in this situation and our congratulations go to all involved in the school."
