A heavy night of rain left mid and north Essex worrying about possible flooding.
Homeowners between Braintree and Maldon were warned to batten down the hatches with flooding highly likely as the Blackwater swelled to worrying levels.
There was a large amount of surface water on the roads during the night, which had begun to drain away by the morning but left one of the major rivers through the county on floodwatch.
The Environment Agency today put the river Blackwater, from Braintree to Langford, near Maldon, on flood warning high up on its scale of warnings.
It means flooding is now expected and people should put their flood plan into action, which includes putting sandbags or floorboards in place to keep water out and preparing to turn off gas and electricity, as well as preparing to evacuate homes.
