There is good news for Brentwood gardeners thanks to two special offers from Essex County Council.
In a bid to encourage more to try home composting Brentwood Council, as well as most local authorities in the borough, have teamed up with Essex Environmental Trust to reduce the price of home composting bins.
Bins can now be bought from the county's civic amenity and recycling centres for as little as £5, a saving of up to 80 per cent on the normal price, and compost is also on offer.
Cabinet Member for Waste and Recycling at Essex County Council, Cllr Kay Twitchen, said: "Composting is an excellent initiative which can take place either at home or through our civic amenity sites.
"We hope these offers will encourage residents to compost their organic waste as this minimises the amount of household waste being sent to landfill, reduces costs and also improves the quality of our gardens."
More than 160,000 leaflets advertising the offer will be sent out in Essex but the bins are on a first come, first served basis so people are urged to apply early by calling 0800 0858088.
