Thousands of households in Basildon are being sent questionnaires as the council tries to find out more about housing problems.
Basildon Council is sending out 14,000 housing needs surveys and will be interviewing a further 600 people face to face. It wants to find out what type of housing people want and can afford in order to cater for the future.
The council's main objectives are to assess:
Housing supply by tenure type, size and locality
Affordability and the aspirations of tenants
The demand for low-cost home ownership, specialist and supported housing.
The findings will be used to help develop the housing strategy and Local Plan.
The final draft is expected in February 2003.
