A crime-busting calendar to help beat conmen has been launched in Colchester.
It will give elderly or disabled people information on avoiding the misery of falling victim to bogus callers.
The idea is believed to be a first. It is aimed at making residents more confident in dealing with all door-to-door sellers, including would-be criminals
Susan Kielty, Essex Trading Standards officer, came up with the idea and thousands of the calendars will be given out in the run-up to 2003.
It is being backed by the Colchester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, which has 7,000 to give to organisations and individuals.
As well as the criminal-foiling tips, which are printed black on yellow to make them as easy to read as possible, they also carry photographs of Essex scenes of the past.
If you would like a copy of the Doorstep Calendar 2003, call Peter Carrington at Colchester Council on 01206 282884.
