The concerns of residents and a nearby school did not play much of a role when councillors gave an application for eight houses the go-ahead.
Members of the Wickford Area Committee were taken to the proposed area on and to the rear of Mount Road, Wickford, after a deferral at the last meeting.
Having visited the site councillors were happy with the plans to demolish two bungalows and build eight houses.
Ten letters were received from the initial consultation, including one from the adjacent Church of England Infant School, and a number of concerns were raised.
These included overlooking, loss of privacy, traffic and highway concerns, pollution from additional traffic, security for existing occupiers and loss of trees and wildlife.
