Shops in Colchester have been urged to take extra care during the strike.
Recommendations made to shops include taking special care how combustable goods are stored and being more vigilant generally.
Derek Ashbee, Culver Centre manager, said: "The advice we are giving is general and making them aware of the situation.
"We've asked them to be more vigilant in terms of waste disposal, storage and checking the shops before they are locked up at night."
The Odeon cinema, which is based in Headgate, Colchester, has strict management in place for fire prevention.
A spokesperson for the Odeon said: "We will not be closing any cinemas during the fire strike. We have stringent management procedures in respect of fire prevention in all our cinemas.
