Southend United boss Rob Newman will have been happy to see hamstring injury victim, striker Mark Rawle, come through 45 minutes of yesterday's 2-1 reserve win at Cambridge.

His attacking options have been severely restricted for Saturday's FA Cup match with Hartlepool.

Both Barrington Belgrave and fellow forward Mark Salter have been ruled out of the first round Roots Hall encounter, through suspension and cup tieing respectively.

And Newman confirmed another frontman, Graeme Jones, is still struggling to beat a hamstring problem, which ruled him out of Saturday's 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers.

"Graeme has been doing a lot of work with the physio, but he hasn't trained all week," said Newman. "But we are keeping our fingers crossed he will be back to face Hartlepool."
