A new road to cut congestion will only go ahead if it gets the backing of the community, residents have been assured.
Officials at Castle Point Council are bracing themselves for controversy over plans to improve traffic flow in Benfleet.
But Nigel Thomas, director of technical services at Castle Point Council, told the Benfleet area forum the scheme could only go ahead if it was backed by the community.
