An appeal has been made for the return of Percy, the parrot - who may have been snatched by thieves.

Percy's owners discovered their pet was missing when they looked in his aviary. Now Percy's mate Elsie is pining for her missing parrot pal.

Carole Ratcliffe, of Wix, said the parrots belonged to her son Tim, 25. Mrs Ratcliffe added: "I suddenly thought I had not seen Percy for a few days, which is nothing unusual, but I looked in the nesting box and to my amazement he was gone."

Percy, who is worth about £300, is an African grey and has a red tail. The five-year-old bird had been at her Wix home for about two years.

The family have contacted the police, RSPCA and pet shops in a bid to trace Percy.

Anyone with information about the bird should call Mistley police on 01206 395555.

The owner of a missing falcon is appealing to anyone who might have seen it. The lanner falcon, described a mottled brown and tan, was last seen in the Point Clear area at 3.30pm on Sunday. About the size of a slender pigeon, the bird has a ring around its leg with contact details and flying straps attached. Anyone with information should call owner Stuart Byers on 07890 905907
