A special constable was crushed to death in a tragic farm accident in Little Bromley.
Kevin Smith, 48, of Elton Walk, Tiptree, leaves a 12-year-old daughter Aimee and wife Dawn.
Mr Smith was delivering grain to Mulley's Farm, Bentley Road, on Wednesday at about 12.30pm. It is understood he was trapped between a forklift truck and a seed-cleaning machine.
Sgt Dave Rout of Stanway traffic police said: "It was a tragic and unforeseen accident. Dawn and Aimee are immersed in their grief but they are being comforted by relatives and friends they're being looked after."
Mr Smith worked for Nayland-based Anglia Grain Services as a machine operator.
Sgt Rout said: "They're absolutely devastated. The manager has told all his staff to have the day off."
A colleague at the company said they were trying to cope with their grief.
Mr Smith was also a special constable working in Hadleigh, Suffolk.
Martin Ashburn, commandant of the Suffolk Special Constabulary, said: "Kevin joined us in 1996 as a special constable and he was a valuable member of our team at Hadleigh police station.
"He was well thought of by his colleagues in both the special constabulary and regular force. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family at this difficult time."
The incident is being treated as an industrial accident and an investigation is being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive and Stanway traffic unit.
