The long-awaited start of work on a unique scheme to help children with learning disabilities has begun.
Jointly with Southend Mencap, St Christopher's School, in Moundale Gardens, Leigh, launched the Christopher's Cottage scheme five years ago.
The £1.3million scheme will provide a residential care facility and a sports hall specifically designed for use by special needs children and young adults and is due to open next August.
